■ The list of creameries, dairy factories, etc., issued annually by the Department of Agriculture shows a substantial extension of the dairying industry last year. At the end of April last there were 173 butter factories and 381 cheese factories registered m the Dominion, apart from private dairies, a s against 167 butter factories and 33U cheese factories at the end of April, 1915. Forty-six -of the butter factories and 100 of the choose factories were in Taranaki, which also possesses 45 out of 59 private daii ics for butter making. The butter factory with the largest output in Taranaki was the Midhirst, which forwarded for export 839 tons, Stratford coming next with 709 tons, then Moa banners with 437 tons, and Mangorei with 353 tons. Kaupokonui is easily the largest cheese factory in the Dominion, its export for the year being 2440 tons; Jell’s factory came next with 2002 tons, and then Eltham with 1733 tons. Hawera and Mangatoki both exceeded 1000 tons, and Kaponga was only a few tons short of that quantity. The Midhirst Dairy Compa >y require a butter-ma-u r. Second edition matter continued on page 2.
