FOOTBALL.
S.D H.S. (13) v. STRATFORD (5). In the match on Victoria Park on Thursday afternoon, High School won the toss, and decided to play uphill and with the wind slightly in their faces. From the kick-off, Stratford rushed play, which hung around the School's twenty-five, where W. Kivell marked, but nothing resulted from the kick. Stratford continued to press until a rush, headed by Lawn, relieved the School, and carried the play to Stratford's twenty-five. From a line out, Coutts secured and passed to Tatton, who had an unsuccessful attempt at a drop. The School again held play upheld, but Stratford broke away, and Macdonald saved by a good line kick. Flay again worked back to Stratford's line where, from a forward tussle, McCullought scored, and Coutts added the extra points-5 to 0. Stratford for a time held play hi the School's twenty-five, but were gradually forced back to near half-way. where .the School were penalised for off-side play, and Collins had a good attempt at goal, the ball falling short. Stratford continued to press, and the School forced twice. The School team were again penalised, and Collins and Kivell had unsuccessful shots at goal. A good kick by Coutts carried play upheld, where Stratford were penalised and marked the free kick. Another good kick"by Coutts carried play to Stratford's twenty-five. Passing by Hellier, Coutts and Tatton followed, but the latter lost the leather. After another passing rush by Tatton, Macdonald and Syme, the latter kicked too far, and Stratford forced. Immediately afterwards, the whistle sounded with the score—s to nil. After recommencing, the School rushed play, but were penalised. Coutts, by a long kick, carried' play to Stratford's twenty-five, where Tatton kicked too far. and Stratford forced. Stratford tried hard to score, but a good kick by Coutts relieved School. Stratford were again forced, and after a tussle, W. Kivell made a bold dash to get over, but went out near the corner. From a scrum, Hellier secured, passed to Tatton, who kicked well down the held where play hung for a while. Coutts marked, and had" an unsuccessful drop at goal. Then a good passing rush by Hellier, Coutts, Tatton and Macdonald ended in the' latter scoring in the corner. Coutts failed to goal-S to nil. Soon after the kick-off.Coutts secured from a tussle, and passed to Tatton, who after a good run, scored. Coutts converted the try-13 to nil. From the kick-off, Stratford rushed play, but Court's relieved. Stratford again ,-anie back, and Sbotter scored. Kuril added the extra points—l 3to 5. Plnv from now on was up and down Held, first one side and then tbe other
attacking. In a passing rush by Hellier Coutts and Tatton, the latter pass ed to Macdonald, but MeAloon intercepted, and rushed upfield. However. Coutts proved to be too fast, and caught him. The ball went into touch, and the whistle sounded with the score as above. Mr D. •). M alone had control of tne game.
