monthly meeting. ' ♦At the last monthly meeting of the Whangamoinona Com.ty, Council there wore present: Crs W. A. MeCutchan (chairman), M. O’-Neill', M.’Geever, X. Cleland, A. Coyne, and J. ‘ McCluggage. CORRESPOX DEXCE. A petition was recoiv'ed troin the settlers on the old Ohara Road, at Huiakama, in regard to a wash-out on the road.—lt was decided to attend to the matter. E. C. Robinson wrote regarding terms of employment.—-1 he matter was left in the hands of the Chairman and Cr McCluggage to deal with. K. Franks wrote in respect to a road reserve, next to the pound, at Huiakama. —The icserve was granted at' an ‘annual rental of l los, to ter- , iL'inato at one mouth’s notice. The Public Works ■'Department,, | Stratford, wrote re subsidy for Brewer | Road.—On Die motion of* the Chair- . man and Cr Geever, Crs4fcCluggage, Coyne, .’O’Xeill and Mounscy were inj strutted, to investigate the' statements contained in the letter and ac- ' cordinglyi. ( In reply to a letter from the Secrei tary of the General Post Office, re the Tahora-Tatu telephone, the Clerk was instructed to write to Messrs Okey, Wilkinson, and Jennings, M.P.’s, pointing out the lack of direct telephonic communication, • and forward copies of recent correspondence between the Council and the PostmasterGeneral.
The Secretary of the ’ Whangamomona Medical Association wrote requesting the use of the County Office. —The request was acceded to. A. Scott wrote re. time worked, and on the motion of Crs O’Neill . and Coyne, it was resolved that the Council'could not pay the claim, as Scott left without notice, and no one was in a position to certify to his claim. GENERAL. It was decided, on tho motion of Crs McCluggago and O’Neill, to notify Mr j B .Him', M.P., by telegram, that tho Council was in favor of Mr igoi Brown’s Naturalised Subject’s franchise Bill.
On tlio motion of Crs McCluggage I ami O’Neill, it was decided that the! general rates he collected in two equal instalments, payable on the 21 si of August and 21st of November, 191(3, respectively. It was decided to request the 1 übhc Works Department to grant £ls to remove slips on the newly-fomed portion of the Marco Road, recently vested m the Council. Or McCluggage moved, and the Chairman seconded ; “That the I üblic Works Department be asked lor a grant of £2O for repairs to the newlyvested portion of the Aylwarcl Hoad. —Carried. „ , ft was decided to notify K. I' ranks that the Council intends to resume road reserve on Tapuni Hoad, leased
to him, at the end of one month’s time. The Chairman gave notice to move at the next meeting of the Council: “That the Council request all local bodies interested to make representations for Government assistance in maintaining County Roads through scenic reseves.” On the motion of Crs O’Neill and McCluggage, the amount of £8 due to Mr Quale was passed for payment, subject to Mr E. C. Robinson's certificate. R. Smith was appointed sufaccman for the Central Riding. The Overseer was authorised to do work on the Poarangi Road, recommended in his report, at a cost of not more th an £B. The Overseer was instructed to prepare estimates of cost and quantities for the formation and widening of the Putikituna Road, and account of the £ISOO loan, for a distance of about 1 i miles, and submit plans and specifications for approval of'the Resident En - gineer. It was decided to hold pound sales, if necessary, on the Ist and 3rd Wednesday’s in each month, at noon. The Chairman moved, and Cr McChiggago seconded ; “ I hat the Clerk enquire from the Counlies’ Assoc.ation, if opinions from Mr Mart.n, made through the Association, are free of charge to the Council making same; and if they are free, the Cleric to obtain opinion re power to borrow money from the bank against the annual Government subsidy,’’-^Carried. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Cr McCluggage, it was resolved to make ah'application to the Valuer-General for an immediate revaluation of the County of Whangamomona. The Chairman moved, and Cr O'Neill seconded: That the general rates he made and levied in accordance with the notice of intention, already published, to make and levy same.—Carried. 5 It was resolved, on the motion of Cr O’Neill and Coyne: That Andrew Coniton be appointed poundkeepar at Huiakama, that the pound ho re-open-ed, and that the* pound sales be held us at Kohuratalli. ‘ ’ The matter of the lease of a paddock at Huiakama was left in the hands of the riding mouthers ‘witT | power to act.
It was decided to pay R. Roberts 4s for driving foes due to him for a horse which died in the pound, the owner of which is with the Exp,..di tionary Forces.
The Overseer was authorised to inspect and report on all cases of alleged overloading or breaches of the heavy traffic by-laws. The Chairman gave notice to move at the next meeting: That the matters of riding boundaries and expenditure of “thirds,” be considered in detail. It was resolved, on the motion pt the Chairman and Cr McCluggage. That Cr McCluggage make e; q driesre vacancy on the Stratford Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, and if the vacancy exists, that the Board be re-
quested to fill the vacancy. R. Beckett’s tender for painting and papering tho Tahora surfaceman s tot tago was left in the hands of the Ruling members. The matter of granting Mr V\ oodney two days’ leave was left m the hands of Cr Clelaud. Or Clelaud was empowered to deal with tho completion of the Tahora surfaceman’s cottage and purchase all re quisites for same. Accounts amounting to £7OS Ids 5d were passed for payment.
