TREATMENT OF PRISONERS GENERAL TOWNSHEND FAVORED EMBARGO ON AMERICAN ENQUIRY. Press Association—Copyright, Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received 10.5 a.m.) London, July 25. The Daily Mail states: The American authorities in Constantinople have warned the British Government that the treatment accorded General Townshond does not apply to the officers and men. Americans are not allowed to inquire into the conditions of British prisoners in Turkey and Mesopotamia, who are believed to bo harshly treated. General Townshend’s treatment is probably a trick of the Young Turks to divert attention to the Armenian massacres.
