THE STRATFORD COUNTY.
FOREMEN'S REPORTS. The following reports .were presented to the mooting yesterday:— North,-• Hiding, West.—Fororaaii Brown reported.—Most 1 of the mouth has been spent in metalling the Mountain Koad, and crushing .patch metal for several other roads. General surface work, is urgently required on some of metalled roads owing to the continuous wet Weather. The Wai- • -puku Bridge decking on the Derby Itoiid has been repaired. South Riding.—Foreman Parker reported.—All my roads are in fair or-
dcr at present, I have, spent most of the month banking up metal. 1 would like the Council to get me another horse. East Hiding.—Foreman Richards reported.—During the past month the following work lias been done. Beaconslield Itoad has been rometaliod with the exception of the fillings which have boon left till finer weather. Kahouri Bridge has boon remptalled and tarred, also the wing.s approaching the bridge have heen widened about eight feet. Oliura Road,—This, road has heen patched, and about -10 chains scarified and rolled, about 2,5 yards of metal has been dumped between the bridge and the Borough boundary. A new culvert has been put in on the Toko Road west, using eight 12-inch pines. Maintenance work has been done on the Ahuroa Road west, and the Waiweri Roads. A hitching past hay been erected at the Toko Post office. ' Huiroa Biding.—Foreman Atkins reported.—Makuri Road west. The carting and stacking of about 90 c-yds of crushed metal has heen completed. This road has been heavily patched throughout during the past month, sufficient metal remains to reinstate the road for some time to come. Makuri Road east.—About 10 cubic yards of metal has been clumped on this road.near the railway station. Douglas Road north lias been watertabled and overhanging scrub cut and cleared, several narrow places widened to proper road width. Repairs have also been carried out on the following roads: Tunune, Douglas, South Moliakau, and Akama Roads. It will be necessary to fascine with scrub a cutting on the latter road. West Riding.—Foreman Plews reported.—During the month surface work on the Hastings Road has been continued. A set of 9in. pipes have been lifted and replaced to greater advantage. Tho bridgo over the Kaupokohui has been repaired. The Cardiff Road has been surfaced from tho Cardiff corner to Waingongoro Road, and the surfacing of Climie Road completed. A blocked culvert on the Brooks Road has been opened up, and the Breckon Road watertabled. The Ronald Road lias been attended to. The Manaia south has been heavily i
patched, The upper Rowan Rnnd which is on its last legs is being.much damaged by heavy firewood traffic. Patching is at present in operation on Opunakc No. 2 and 3, this length is being kept in tolerable condition, only by increasing effort, as all such portions as have not been refaccd are unequal to the strain imposed upon them. Mangaehu Riding—Foreman Savage reported,—During the month I have been clearing slips on the Mangotiiku and Mangaehu Roads, and finished the cut on the Mangaehu south Road. The I'uniwhakau surfaceman has been
clearing slips, on tho : Mangaehu and Uuniwbakan Roads. T. Uarracloughij doing good work on the Manga. Tiie unmetalled part or the Mangaehu Road and the Brewor-Taihore are in had order, being short of labour, I. am unable to carry out the, work. Other roads are in fair order. North Hiding.— Foreman Kovaloski reported.—Practically all our time this month has been spent helping with crushing operations. A little patching lias been done on Salisbury Uoad owing to the net' weather, several other roads are breaking up in places, these wo will attend to as soon as possible. ENGINEER'S REPORT.
Tlie Engineer (Mi W. J. Lopdell) reported as follows:—North Riding.—The crushing plant has been engaged at Midbirst most of the month, crushing for the Mountain Road, and patch metal for several byroads. The plant has just finished crushing on the Stanley Road. The surfacemen have allowed their roads to get a little out of hands owing to the assistance they have had to give to the crusher. The bridge gang are still at the Stanley Road bridge, but will have same completed before next meeting.
j South Biding.,—The work in this Riding has been of the usual surface 'nature, water-tabling and banking-up. The tar boiler is now on the section at the Climie road ready for erection. East Riding.—The small, roller has been most of the month in this Riding, and has done a lot of useful work, it is now engaged on Victoria Street. Tho Douglas and Htiiroa Ridings have been confined to patching and general smface work,.there being a scarcity of labour in the latter riding. West.Riding.—This Biding has been well water-tabled, but many of the light roads are breaking up badly for want of metal. The crushing plant is on its way to the Finnerty road, several other roads will be attended to while, the plant is in the district. Mangaehu Riding.—This riding is still up against the usual slip clearing and surface work, but is gradually recovering itself, scarcity of labour being the chief trouble.
General.—The Committee appointed to purchase a traction met and decided on" a Bur roll engine, the. property of the Waimate Council, delivery was taken of same last Monday.
A report on the Barclay Boad deviation is on the table.
