CLEARING OUT THE ENEMY.
GENERAL SMUTS' REPORT.
The High Commissioner reports :-~ London, July 19 (2.15 p.m.)
General Smuts, on the 18th, s'ates: Reports show that the enemy forces which [-endeavoured to operate against. the dommuriications northwards of Handeni and the Usamhara railway, have now heen driven down the Panraui river, abandoning a field gun. The clearance of this area at Agrodrep is progressing satisfactorily. On the southern shore of Lake Vicrusa, a force under Brigader-General Sir C. Grower disembarked at Muananza at night on Friday. The enemy evaluated the town after slight resistance, leaving rifles, . a portion of a supply column, and the guns which had been obtained from .the cruiser Konigsberg; The majority of the Gormans and European*! embarked on a steamship and fled southward by St. Uhlmann Sound, being pursued by armed lake vessels.
