Signor Battisti, a Deputy for Trent in the Austrian Parliament, who was seriously wounded in fighting as an Italian officer, committed suicide rather than fall into the Austrian bands. The Austrians held a mock treason trial over the body and hanged it. There is furious indignation and demands for reprisals are general throughout Italy.
ITALIAN PROGRESS REPORT. The High Commissioner reports : London, July 19 (2.15 p.m.) An Italian official reports states: On Monday night there was intense artillerying in th o Ledro Valley. Strong enemy detachments attacked on the Pasubio, but were repulsed with heavy loss. Yesterday, the enemy's artillery fire on a position in the Langamana Valley was effectively replied to. On upper Posiba, after artillery preparation, the Italians renewed their attacks on Corno and Delcostn. The niany's batteries did not reply to the. bomi bardment, afterwards l.eginmng a heavy action. The Italians, however, succeeded in gaining new positions on the rocky slopes of the mountain.
