PERSONAL.
The state of health of Mrs W. T. Jennings is, causing her friends'great anxiety. Staff-Captain Wallace arrives by the express to-night and gives an address at the Salvation Hall at eight o'clock. At the meeting of the Jaranaki Hospital Board yesterday a vote of condolence with the • relatives of Mr Jas. Davidson, of Hawera, was passed, the members standing. The names of Misses Gertrude Burgess (Stratford) and Norah Bergen (Wanganui) were added to the probationers' list of the New Plymouth hospital.
Private cable messages received from Lieut. T. E. Y. Seddon, M.P., Second Brigade Canterbury Battalion, and Lieut. Stuart Seddon, R.H.A., state that both are well. Tile messages have come since the German attack on the New Zealand trenches, and the great offensive. The Seddon brothers met in France. Lieut. Stuart Seddon had just three months in the deadly trench mortar work in the front trenches, and had come through safely, despite having experienced considerable "strafing." Word had also been received from Mrs Wood (nee' Miss R-übi Seddon) that her husband, Fleet-Surgeon Wood, who is well-known to many New Zealanders, was on hoard a vessel which took part in the Jutland battle.
Captain J. B. Hhie, M.P., was reelected patron of the Egmont Cllfb at the annual meeting last evening. Mr J. Masters was elected president; Rev. Father Maples, Rev. C. Howard, and Mr C. W. Rogers, vicepresidents: Messrs T. Marshall, C. D. Sole, I). P. Sullivan. X. B. Fletcher, and J. McMahon, committee; Mr S. Ward, secretary (re-elected); Mr H. Wilson, lion, auditor (re-elected).
At the annual meeting of the Egmont Club last evening two framed enlarged photographs of the late Colonel W. 0. Malone and Captain T. P. James, who were members of the institution, were nnvieled by His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. W. Boon) in the presence of a record gathering of members. The Rev. Father Maples and Rev. C. Howard also added tributes to fallen heroes. Mr J. B. Richards, on behalf of the relatives of both soldiers, feelingly thanked the Club for placing a permanent memorial!! in the room. •
