The Stratford Dairy Company pay out on the 20th the sum of £20,923. being the June milk account and final payment for the season.
The raffle for the new five-seater Studebaker car presented to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund by Mr Newton King, will be drawn on the 26th hist. It is requested that all money and butts for tickets sold be returned by Monday, 24th inst.
The Fire Brigade turned out last night in response to an alarm, wh.-n it was found that a chimney was on fire in the residence of the Misses Ryan, next to Foley's Pictures. Before the general public had discovered where the trouble was, the flames had been put out.
A very enjoyable house-warmer evening was given on Tuesday evening by Mr H. Linn, who has lately taken up his residence at Te Pbpo. Friends to the number of about forty assembled from far and near. During the evening cards and games were played, and dancing formed the programme for the young folk's. Songwere sung by "Mrs CibKis. I At a meeting of the Whangamo-j niona Patriotic Committee on Tues-j day evening, it was decided to give ( a farewell to Trooper Rodder in the ball, in conjunction with the weekly social on Friday evening. The Patriotic Committee are not sparing their energies in endeavoring to raise funds for their great cause. Besides weekly and sometimes twice-a-week socials and-evenings, a minstrel troupe lias been organised which . promises to surpass in mirth and entertainment anything ever produced in this town. A grand bazaar is also to be held in September.—Own correspondent.
Some time ago negotiating • were opened between the Ifranaki County Council and Mr W. Marsh with a view to improving a very dangerous corner known as Marsh's Corner, on the Junction Road, Lower Mangoiei, but these were without result. Yesterday morning, however, it was found that 'about fifty yards of the corner
had been blown away by some person or persons unknown. It may wifely be said that even if Mr Marsh is not .satisfied, every motor man "n the country will throw up his hat!
At the New Plymouth Magistrate's Court yesterday, Harry Brunsdcn, laborer, of Warea, was charged by the police that on or about May 24, 191(3, he did unlawfully send to the editor of the Taranaki Daily News for the purpose of publication, a certain untrue notice of marriage of -Miss Jane Duggan and Mr A. Rookes. Counsellor accused asked for an adjournment for various reasons, but eventually asked leave to withdraw the pica of nor
guilty and plead guilty. Counsel could not account for the lapse, but defendant, who was the butt of the community, "was not too well mentally." A fine should meet the case. Inspector Fouhy said the report had been re-written from a wedding which had been published previously. The names being altered to suit the case. In sending the report he had also forged the name of W. Hoffmann, hut the police did not bring forward that charge. Be could not see any circumstances justifying leniency. Defendant had been before the Court: on previous occasions. A fine of £5 was imposed with court costs £] 7s, and witnesses expenses C(j ss.
