Mr J. N. Harvey, of the Kaupokonui Dairy Company, has been ap-Bpoin-ed manager of the Patna Dairy Factory. ' Sir Robert Ho Tung, one of Britain’s most recent knights, who has |k> presented a £ISOO biplane to the lini perial aircraft flotilla,, is of Chinese birth, and owns much property m * Hongkong. Mr David Nairn died at his residence in Christchurch on Friday night, aged 82. Deceased, who was a well-known seedsman, came to the Dominion in 1865 from Fifcshire, and took up horticulture, later establishing the business which is known throughout New Zealand. Mr H. S. Symons, accountant at tue Stratford branch of the Bank of Australasia for the past two and a-half years, has received notice of transfer on promotion to the Bank’s Auckland .office, and leaves for the northern city on Tuesday next. Mr and Mrs Symons have male many friends m Stratford, who will he sorry to learn of their departure. Mr Symons will be especially mused in tennis circles, as he has been one of the local club’s most enthusiastic active members. ■»Mr Symons’ place will he taken in Stratford by Mr H. N. Freeman, who comes from Wellington, and who, after fifteen months active military service, is again taking up his duties as one of the Bank’s officials.
At a meeting of St. Andrew’s (Presbyterian) congregation last evening, a very hearty and unanimous call to ’ the Rev. J. Dawson C. Madill, of Papakura, was decided on, and the formal call is now being signed. The Rev. Mr Madill comes of the wellknown and-highly respected family of that name in Pukekohe, Auckland. He received his secondary education at the Otago University, and his theological training at Knox College, Dunedin. For the past four years he has been in charge df the church at Papakura, where his work, especially among the young people, is highly spoken of. A comparatively young man, earnest and sincere in his work, sympathetic and broadminded, Mi Madill should, if ho sees his way to accept the call, prove a worthy successor to the late pastor, the Rev. Jas. ' Pattison, Mr Madill is a married
man, with a family of three young children. His brother, the Rev, Adam ' Madill, of Whakatane, is now at the Front as a fighting unit, holding the rank of Sergeant. After enlisting he was, without application, offered a position as a chaplain, but remained a, fighting parson.
