An Auckland PreSs Association message reports the death of Mr J. J. Craig, shipowner and head of the firm of Craig and Co., carriers.
Mrs C. B. Walsh, of Stratford, received word this morning to the effect that her brother, Private R. Marrett, who left New Zealand with the Main Force, had been killed in action in France. Private “Bob” Marrett, who was well knbtrn and very popular in Stratford, was employed by Messrs Bellringer Bros, at. Stratford, and later at New Plymouth.
The funeral of tiie late Private Patrick Butler, nephew of Mr John Butler, of Toko, who died in Trentham Hospital on Monday, as the result of epilepsy ,will take place on Friday afternoon. The body is to be brought to Stratford for interment, and on arrival of the mid-day train to-morrow will be taken to the Roman Catholic Church, from which the cortege will leave at two o'clock on Friday for the Kopuatama Cemetery. The funeral will be a military one, of which Lieutenant Gray will be in charge. Territorials and Cadets are instructed to assemble at the School grounds at 1.30 p.m. on Friday to attend the funeral.
