SPORTING.

.hWELLIMGT'OK K A CIN C CLUB. 1H j DC 11 ‘ ' : (By Cicero.), One of the mo| important steeplechase meetings of.jjfcho season will open, a.- Trentliam to-morrmv, when the, Wellington ■. l Racing Chin’s winter meeting will attract the atten.ion of sportsmen throughout the Dominion. \s in former years, the acceptances are large, and if reports are reliable, the tracks are remarkably -good ,<a most unusual condition ax,. Trentliam in the winter). The dropping out of a large number of .the earlier favorites in, Ell Xißl\k IWfaimai, Braeburu, Te Opga", fjM Cof, ”-hAVe’’'ferotight much bullion* to the double layers; Proceedings will open with the Vittorio . Hurdles, for which event nine only accepted., Soultikoff and Austin should enmmami the most support. I 'A very, large field tail 1 face tin* barrier for the Stewards’ Handicap. Bisogne, Heorge and (Kara are nicety plahed. Steeplechase ‘ Hopye and Wirokino have the best credentials. A very poor lot, are engaged in the Tyial Plate. Possibly Hymeueaus. who hails from a dangerous s able (Ormond’s) and Haupai will have most say at tile finish. The withdrawal of many of the best “chasers” in the Dominion has robbed the Wellington Steeplechase of much interest, but nevertheless, some good material is still engaged. Taroro, who beads the list, is a most proficient jumper, and under a medium weight is hard to beat, but the weight and distance may find him out at Trentliam to-morrow. Ngatoa, who won the last National, is again galloping well. He is a great fencer, and at the late Fllcrslio 'meeting put up a good performance by running third under 10.13 in the /treat Northern Steeplechase. Fagot has done all asked of him lately, but having a wind affection, he may bo troubled by the 3', miles. Immensity is undoubtly a good one, but owing to unsoumlness, suffers through want of a. sound preparation. Captain Jack is reliable, but may Jnsfc lack the necessary brilliancy in sueb a field. Harlon, both a- Wanganui and Flier;.!ie. showed promise■ over the “big country.” ’and is ntiicli fancied by bis connections for to-morrow’s event. Vascular has pace and jumps well. He also stays on, and was fast closing on Fagot at the end of the Hawke’s Bay race. Ot the lesser weights New York, BransSiehi, and Queen’s Post have most to recommend them. Ngatoa, Vascular, and Marton should make the finish interesting. The Parliamentary Handicap should provide a great contest. Ringtone, Flying Start, and Lady Louisa must have undeniable chances. Ibe Winter Hurdles secured fourteen acceptors. The event bears an open appearance. Possibly Crown Pearl, Oladful and Tarani Jack will be prominent at the finish. The eoueludiug event, the ie Aro Hack, may be a routes. between Perrier, Strabo and Bainisdale.
