At midnight aeroplanes bombed the south-east districts of England, Anti-aircraft guns were engaged. Hitherto similar questions were postponed, pending negotiations with the farmers, who point out that colonial wools have advanced 80 to 90 per cent.* over the prices ruling early in 1914. Opponents declare that they will urge the Government to impose an excess profits tax on farmers if the demands are conceded. The agitation brings colonial wools into prominence. Speakers at a meeting of the Lincolnshire Farmers Union protested against the Government allowing wool 1 users fo buy wool in New Zealand, l while stopping sales of English wool.
The Yorkshire Observer understands that the Government will not take action in the direction of acquiring the colonial wool clip unless the situation becomes more acute.

Lord Robert Cecil, in the House of Commons, said the German reply to the protest re the treatment of prisoners at Ruhleben Camp denied that insufficient food was given to the prisoners, but while rejecting our proposals for an exchange of prisoners they made another which the Government is considering. ’
