HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE.
"THE TIGRESS."
The Vitagraph Company has scored a complete success with its Broadway "feature" photo-play 'The Tigress," which is the principal attraction with the programme to be screened for the last time to-night, at His Majesty's Theatre. The orchestra, under the leadership of Mr C HI Rogers, renders very acceptable selection nightly. The central figure is a beautiful and refined woman who plays the part ol a society leader in the daytime, but at night is the guiding spirit of a gang of criminals. The auxiliary items are "When the Breezes Blow" (Mutual comedy), "Cernobbio" (scenic), and "The Gaumont Graphic" (topical).
AN ARMY FUNCTION.
I (Contributed.) The Salvationists were again favored by fine weather for their grand programme of tableaux, recitations and drills, which were given on Thursday 'night in their own hall. Nearly every [seat in the building was occupied at •a shilling and sixpence admission, thus giving an idea of the interest which had been aroused. The programme opened by the singing of "There's a Land'That is Fairer Than Day," after which Mrs Adjutant Cook engaged in prirfycr. Adjutant Cook then made a few'remarks concerning' the workers . .programme to be given, and also"announced a dumhell drill, by a' company of sturdy boys, eight in number. • A few, recitations 'followed, and the girls then .came forward, marching briskly to the .strains of "Men of Harlech," and gave a wand drill. The first tableau was entitled "The Allies," and when the curtain was withdrawn, there / appeared "Britania," ■ surrounded with representatives of her [Allies, and also three boys in military • uniform with rides. This tableau, with all lights out, except one used for effects, was really very pretty, and roused considerable enthusiasm. A recitation "Tommy Atkins," given by a boy in khaki, was well received. Then carao another tableau, "Ora Pro Nobis," with coloured 'lighting effects, and this was. well received. A lengthy >prdgramme of songs, recitations, and [tableaux followed till-HUSO, when the [gathering dispersed, the Bpnedictipn b'cing pronounced after the singing lot the National Anthem. ; Among .the tableaux were: "Little Mary," illustrating a well-known hymn in Sankey's collection, "Jesus Lover of My Soul"; "His Last Letter," showing a Red Cross nurse taking a dying soldier's last message; "Rock of Ages," with a change of position between the singing of each verse by the audience ; • "The Building of the Cross," was carried out by various young women, who at appointed times and places brought in boxes bearing differently printed words such as Faith,Virtue, Knowledge LoVe, Temperance, Brotherly Kindness and Godliness, The Cross, when built, with each box having a lighted candle inside, the remained of the building being in darkness, looked very pretty and with the lighting effects was really worth seeing. Several groups - in the tableau included "Angels" with their wings, and these added considerably to the effect. Thanks of appreciation were extended by Adjutant Cook to Mr R. Witt, Mr W. Milne, Mr R. Jackson, and to all who had contributed to the great success of the entertainment.
