VERY REV. F. J. WATTERS, S.M. D.D., L.L.D.

(From the Dundalk Democrat.) 1 With very genuine regret wo announce the death of the above well known and high esteemed rev. gentleman, as the result of a gun shot wound accidentallly received when on a mission of duty and charity. His death will be deplored not alone by the members of his own community at Leeson Street and the Society of Mary at large, but also by a large ' ' frioitds amongst the clergy and laity 1 of Dublin and Bornah Dufidalk 'in 1851, Dr. Watters came' ofj a good old Catholic, family.. As a boy of ten, Felix Joseph was One Hi tjhe first students who entered St. Mary's College, Dundalk, on its, foundation in 1801. Accordingly, we find he made his religious profession in the Society of Mary in August 1872. Two years afterwards he was ordained prest, his first appointment being in the Catholic University School where ho labored with much success to the end of tho scholastic year of 1883-4. In the autumn of 1884 he in company with another Dundalk man, the late Rev. Nicholas Carolan, S.M., left Ireland at the call of the then Superior-Gen-eral to found the College of St. Patrick in Wellington, New Zealand. Tho College was opened in 1885 and Father Felix was the first President.' During / tho years of his presidency the College made r/ipid progress,, and when in 1897 bo sailed for Europe ho had the consolation of knowing that his work was blessed with no ordinary success. In 1892 he was oppointed Superior of the Catholic University School, Dublin, over the destinies of which he presided till his untimely death on Monday morning. His death has created a great void. His familiar countenance, his pleasant smile, his genial presence will be sadly missed by his numerous friends, but none more than by the members of his community at Leeson Street.
