TARANAKI WOOL, SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SALES.
NEWTON KING’S REPORT,
At my sale of the above on Tuesday 27th June, I catalogued 63 bales and 150 sacks wool, 3100 sheepskins, 17 casks and 93 tins tallow, 24 cases lard, 812 hides, 205 calfskins, and the usual sundries.
A good proportion of the wool offered was erutchings, which sold readily under foreign competition, and at prices that must be gratifying to growers. Tallow advanced 35s per ton. Sheepskins were keenly competed for and advanced Id per lb. Hides met an unsatisfied demand and again advanced -Jd to Id, heavy sorts and good-conditioned benefit ting mostly. I quote.—Wool, erutchings best 12id, medium lid to 12d, seedy and inferior 9i{d to 10-Id, fleece 12d to* 13d, lambs 12-Jd, seedy 5d to Bd, second shearing 12d tq) Crutchings 9ld to lid, fleece 9RI to 13d, lambs 8d to 12*d, locks and pieces 2*d to 6d, black 8-Jfd to 9Jd. Sheepskins.—Full wool Bifd to 11 jd, f-wool 10Id to Hid, 1-wool 9Jd to lid, lambs lOd to llfd, short lambs 7*d to 7fd, pelts 3|d to 7-id, damaged woolly 8d to 9 J 4 d, dead 9id, dead and damaged 3id to 9id, skin pieces 6i|d. Damp lines.—Extra heavy 13s 6cl to 16s 6,d, heavy 10s lOd to 12s, medium 7s 4d to 9s, light 3s 6d to 6s 6d, lambs 3s 6d to 9s, dead lambs 2s 9d to 5s 6d. Salted best 8s to 9s Bd, light 4s to 7s. Tallow.—Best mixed in casks 28s to 30s, in tins 27s 9d to 30s 6d, lard 2d per lb. Hides.—Ox medium 10id to Hid, cow (heavy) 9id to lid, medium lOd to 10|d; light 9id to 10|d,.cnt Bid to 9d, stags 6-id to 7i-d, horse (heavy) 15s to 17s 6d, light 7s 3d to 11s 6d, cut 5s 3d to-10s 6d, farmers’ cow 7d to 9id, cut or slippy 4d to 6-;}-d, yearlings Bid to 9id, dry, slippy or cut lid to 7d. Calfskins—Best lines 10id to 10|d, seconds 9d to 10Jd, cut or slippy 5d to Bid, goats Is each, pigs Is. Horsehair Is 9|d lb., mime lid lb. Cbwtails 12id dozen, horsetails 6d each. Bbnes £5 per ton.
