PERSONAL.
Lieutenant Gladstone Ward, son of Sir Joseph Ward, has received his full commission in the transport section of the Imperial Army Service Corps.
At yesterday’s meeting of the Education Board the following resignations were accepted; Miss K. C. Wilson (Marco), Miss S. 0. McCulloch (Stratford), Miss Irene Meyer (Durham). Leave of absence was granted to several teachers.
Mr C. J. Ryan, the elective member of the Land Board, who was returned unopposed, took his seat for the third term, at the Board meeting yesterday, after being congratulated by the chairman (Mr G. H. Bullard), and members of the Board.
Mr F. W. Roydhouse, Inspector-in-structor in Physical Training for the Wanganui and Taranaki education districts, with headquarters at Wanganui, is at present in Stratford. The local school has been attended, and Mr Roydhouse is putting the teachers from the schools in the neighborhood through a refresher course of two hours daily at the Stratford School.
Captain J. H. Curtis, a number of whose relatives live in New Zealand, was recently reported killed in action. He was twice mentioned in dispatches by General Sir John Nixon; first in operations at Amara and again at Kut-el-Amara. Captain Curtis was in the Ist Battalion, Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry. He was the eldest son of Sir John Curtis, of Cardiff, and nephew of Mr Henry McNeil, of Manchester, both of whom are interested in Australasian matters. I
