WRECK OF A BARQUE.
STRUCK A REEF AT SURPRISE ISLAND. CREW IN SYDNEY. (Received 9.i30 a.m.) Sydney, June 28. Eleven of the Manuniu's crew arrived by a French mail steamer. Cap'.ain Robertson states that the barque was wrecked on May 2b' near the Pelotos Reef, Surprise Island. After discharging coal at Noumea, they were proceeding to Surprise Island to load guano for Auckland, when a strong current set the vessel on the reef. The main mast fell, and the vessel turned on her beam ends and became a hopeless wreck. The crew stood by until daylight, but were forced to abandon the vessel. They were rescued hv the manager of the island. Next day the vessel began to break "P. „ The crew spent three days on burprise Island, and then chartered a cutjter and proceeded to New Caledonia, going in thence to Noumea.
