ANZACS AT MIDHIRST.

A SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The worthy object of the entertainment— the raising of funds for the assistance of the widows and dependents lof the sailors who lost their lives in the North Sea—drew a large audience •to the Midhirst Hall last evening, jwhen the bill-o Mare supplied by the JAnzac Minstrels from Stratford was highly appreciated. Interlocutor Fred Foley had his team in good working order, and Endmen S. Ward and G. Bradley (tainbos) and J. Rowe and S. Cato (bones) emptied out laughter in great chunks. The programme opened with the singing of the English. Russian, and French' National Anthems, after which the following items occupying the first part of the evening were given :—Song,' "If the Mail in flie Moon Were a Coon," Mr G. Bradley: gag, "Trouble With Your Wife," Mr J, Rowe; song, "Algernon," Miss Sheahan; gag, Mr S. Cato; song, "We'll Get There in Time," Mr S. Ward; gag, Mr G. Bradley; gag Mr J. Rowe; patriotic recitation, "Kitchener," Mr F. Ranford ; gag Mr S. Ward ; song, "Some Hearts Will be Joyful." Mr S. Cato: gag, Mr J. .Rowe; song, "Hero of the Dardanelles," Mr Walters; gag, Mr S. Cato; song, "Masies," Miss Greenhalgh; gag, Mr G. Bradley; song, "What do You Think of the Kaiser," Mr J. Rowe; finale gags, Mr S. Ward; comic skit, "The Gloomy Forest." The orchestral accompaniment to the Anzacs was a feature of the programme, and assisted largely towards full justice bejng done to the various items. The players were Messrs Lister Bros, (vipljns), and Walker (piano). In the second half, several excellent-ly-rendered solos and duets were arranged, and this was by no means the least enjoyable part of the entertainment. Items were given by Miss Greenhalgh, Miss Sheahan, Messrs Walters, Ranford, Walker, and Rowe, the latter performer's comic element being as usual above suspicion and mirth-provoking to a degree. The concert was brought to a close with Mr Foley's inimitable exposition of ventriloquism, a clever and highly amusing turn. Mr Ranford supplied the piano accompaniments in the second part,- and the concert was concluded with the singing, of, the National iAnthem. ■ ■ i. ' -.inn > ■:• •. ■ ..

For the Sailors' Dependents > Fund, the proceeds : of the evening are i ex* peered' to realise over £ll, which amount must he considered highly satisfactory to all who gave their ser:yic;cs,sp freely and ungrudgingly in the good cause. Besides the performers mentioned above, the thanks of the management are due to Messrs E. Jackson, A. J. Davey, and A. Cuff, for the use of their motor-cars in conveying the Stratford party to and from the hall.
