VESSEL UNSUITABLE. STILL HOPEFUL OF RESCUE. J (Received 12.20 p.m.) i London. June 26. I Shnekleton, from Port Stanley, telegraphed that lie had returned after, an Unsuccessful attempt to rescue Wild and party on Elephant Island. He encountered much heavier ico conditions than in the previous , attempt in May. Me .got within twenty miles of the Island, hut owing to the heavy impenetrable pack; interspersed by numerous icebergs and also, a high 'north-westerly swell, he found it impossible to proceed. i, Ultimate rescue will only, be, possible with a wooden steam vessel or ice breaker. ; ■;•!■••.-'. He saw gentoo peng.uius on the edge of the ice. These will supplement the party's food which is mainly bovril.
