FOOTBALL.
EASTERN DISTRICTS SUB-UNION. The opening match of the Union competition between the cadet companies under their jurisdiction was played on Saturday at Toko, when Toko defeated Strathmore to the tune of 81 points to nil. The Toko representatives were burly compared to their opponents, and they made no race of the game. At the same time, the fact that the visitors were three "boys" short, should not be lost sight of. Mr W. Bonner made an efficient referee. I The fixtures for the season are as follows :-- Whanga v. Strathmore, July l, at To Worn'. ; 'Toko v. Whanga. July 8, at Whangamomona. i Strathmore v. Toko, July 15, at Te WW-; ;' Strathniore v. Whanga, July 22, at "Whanga. ' j jTpko v.' Whanga; July 29, at Toko! |' At a meeting of the Sub-Union on Saturday, it was decided that a district representative team play the champions of the Central division in the first Week of August, at Stratford. A collection at Saturday's game in aid of the mother of the late Norkey Dewar resulted in the sum of ISs being raised.
