THE CHEESE OUTPUT.
RE-DUGTION IN PRICE. The Taranaki farmers,'' at meetings recently held at Hawera and Klthani, decided to offer their outputs to the Government, for War Office requirements at 9Jcl, the approximate average price lading on the Home market! during the past season. This price (states the News correspondent in Wellington) the Government considered too high, and harsh things were said about the greed of the Taranaki producers. The Prime Minister dejcided to meet the North Island dairymen at Palmerston North and see if a lower price could not be arranged. The meeting took place on Tuesday, as a result of which the dairy factory representatives decided to offer their whole output to the Government at Sifd, or half the output at' l.Sd, with the proviso that the other I half is to he consigned Home through ■the usual channels and to have equal facilities of shipment with the Government’s half. Another important proviso is that if the Home Governj men! requires more than of) per cent, it is to have first call on the produce at Home, hut at market prices. I These proposals will formally ho put 1 before dairy companies at meetings to he called shortly at different centres. If the proposals arc not accepted, independent action will ho taken by the New Zealand Government, and the prices fixed as it thinks equitable. Future proceedings will take place u camera, as did tho meetings in Wellington and Palmerstan North.
