U 35 VISITS CARTAGENA.
NEWS FROM THE CAMEROONS.
KAISER’S. THANKS TO KING ALFONSO.
(Received 9.10 a.m.) Madrid, June 22
The submarine U 35 visited Cartagena ostensibly for repairs, and transferred to the interned German steamer Roma presents for the interneds from the Cameroons.
The commander stated that he had destroyed fifty ships, including the Provence. He brought a letter from the Kaiser thanking King Alfonso for welcoming the refugees from the Cameroons.
Spanish warships escorted the submarine beyond territorial waters.
(Cartagena, which is the principal naval arsenal of Spain and a fortress of the first-class, is laved by the waters of the Mediterranean in the province of Murcia, in the south-east corner of the country. The population is over 100,000).
