A story is going the rounds that General L'irdwood and an English Colonel, a stickler for discipline, were discussing the Australian soldier and the General went on to relate a little | story. He was goiug the rounds of the trenches when he came upon a big Queenslander who was on sentry duty, and who beyond a casual stare, took no notice of the commander. Presently, however, he saw a shell coming and yelled out, "Duck your you do?" gasped the horrified Colonel, who evidently expected to hear of n court martial. "Do?" said Genera! Birdwond, with a twinkle, in his eye, "Why 1 did as T was told. I .ducked my head."
