A London cable says that the King gavo an audience to General Sir Alexander Godley, and invested him with the Order of the Companionship of the Bath.

At to-day's meeting of the Stratford County Council, the chairman (Cr. W. Hathaway) and other councillors offered their congratulations to Cr. Anderson on his recent marriage. Cr. Anderson suitably replied. A Press Association telegram from Auckland states that Captain Arthur John Ketley, aged 77. died suddenly in the street on his way to church on Sunday. The cause of death was heart failure. Deceased served in the Navy before arriving in New Zealand in 1862.

Friends of Mr M. J. Brennan (Opunake) will be very sorry to hear that last week his condition was not so satisfactory, and that on Saturday it became necessary to amputate the leg above the knee, at the Hawera Hospital.

Messrs Standish and Staudish, of New Plymouth, solicitors, have admitted into partnership Mr T. P. Anderson, of that town, and lately of Stratford. The business will bo carried on in the present offices of the firm under the name of Staudish and Anderson.

A London letter, dated May 4, says: Lieut, Arthur Hirst, R.N.V.R, (Taranaki), has returned to duty after being invalided from the North Sea. He is now on patrol duty in the Downs.

At the annual meeting of shareholders of the Stratford Electrical Supply Company, the retiring directors. Messrs G. E. Wilson and N. J. King, were re-elected, and Mr T. H. P -nil was re-elected auditor. At a meeting of directors Mr R. Masters was re-elected chairman.
