THE ENEMY CHECKED. Unitbd Pkkb* amocioi •« London, June IA. An Italian semi-official report says that the situation on the Italian tront has greatly improved during the past fortnight. There was an impression that the enemy might pierce our lines and reach the plains, but the Italian policy of not attempting to stop the Austrian advance on unfavorable ground has proved entirely successful. As was expected the Austrians took Asiago and Arsiero, but they have been unable to progress further. The enemy's slight advance on the wings is completely stopped. The position now is that the enemy are held all along the line, anO* the mistakes, which have been remedied, will not be renewed. No doubt the Russian advance will prove a most valuable aid. The transfer of Austrians from the Italian front to Galicia must prove long and difficult. The position of the Allies was never more hopeful than now, after the British naval victory, the Austrian rout, and the appalling German losses. REGAINING GROUND. Rome, June 14. A communique says: By brilliant assaults we captured a strongly fortified line along the whole length of Riormini, and from Parmesan height to Lagarina valley. The enemy have boon driven out of Molisino, on the Anosina-Astico front. OFFICIAL NEWS. ENEMY REPULSED. The High Commissioner reports:— London, June 14 (2.10 p.m.) An Italian official report states: On our lines at Posena on Monday night, the enemy, after an immense artillery preparation, attempted an attack in the direction of Fovni, Almi, Oanipolia, and Mounts Giove and Brazome. The attack was repulsed yesterday. The enemy confined himself to bombardment, especially of Xovegno. An infantry attack was prevented in the Upper Boine. An enemy attack to re-capture positions north of Podestango was completely thwarted.
