MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meeting oi the Stratford Hospital and Charitable Aid Hoard was held yesterday morning, when there were present: .Messrs j. McAllister (chairman), C. I). Sole, I'. McK, .Morison, K. The acting secretary of the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Hoard forwarded the following resolution, passed at a recent meeting: That the maintenance for inmates oi the Old Peoples' Home be increased from i2s to Los per week as from June i, 1910.—-Received.

The Auckland Hospital Hoard wrote forwarding a draft of a proposed amendment to "The Destitute Persons' Act," and asking the Hoard to

support its action in endeavoring to obtain an alteration of the law and to solicit the aid of the members of Parliament for the district.—Un the Chairman's motion it was decided to support, die proposal.—Carried. The Wairau Hospital Board wrote suggesting that the Hospital Department should appoint a competent engineer to report on all heating aid lighting appliances in existing hospitals and those to be erected.—Received.

The secretary of the Orphans' Home Trust Board wrote forwarding a copy of the 56th annual report.—Received. The Inspector-General, Department of Health, wrote stating that Mrs MacLachlan should be a very suitable nurse for the position at Whangamomona. Enclosed with the letter was a copy of the rules under which the district nurses work.—Received. Mrs MacLachlan wrote thanking the Board for the appointment ■„» muse at Whangamomona.—Received. The Wliailgamomona Medical Association wrote forwarding the scale of charges proposed to be charged, ana stating thai Mrs MacLachlan had commenced duties.—The scale was adopted, subject to the approval of the Department. A circular letter was received from the Department ol Health asking the Board's assistance in an endeavor to secure for sufferers from infantile paralysis such continuation ol treatmeat as in the opinion of the most skilled exponents is calculated to bring back power to the paralysed muslesc and stating tlie acute stage,. of the disease.—Received.

The Hawera Hospital Board wrote re the admittance to the Hospital ol a patient suffering from uilancile paralysis, and stating that the Board and not taken the advantage of the 1; cures in Wellington. ft was proposed to send a person outside the uospital to undergo the training, but so tar that has not come off. The pa-son referred to is Miss Wilson, who is blind and does a lot of massage work in Hawera, with good results, and has experience in this particular disease, and the Board might be able to secure her services.—Received. The Medical Superintendent (Dr. Steven) reported that during the month of May twenty patients were admitted, 2.\ discharged, and one died. Eleven remained in hospital at the end of the month. Seven operations were performed under anaesthetics. On May 16 1 became ill, and Dr. Paget acted as Medical Superintendent until Dr. Woodhouse arrived on .'day 29. I beg to express to the Board my very keen appreciation ol Dr. Paget's kindness in so willingly coming forward and relieving me ei die responsibility until Dr. Wootf.iouse arrived. Having had practical experience during the month of the nursing ability of the matron and nurses cAhc hospital, 1 have much pleasure in informing the Board that I am perfectly satisfied with the same. In conclusion, J formally beg to request the Board to grant me leave until I am sufficiently recovered to resume work.—Adopted. The Sanitary Inspector (Mr A.

Gray) reported that one case <:f typhoid fever was notified in Stratford ! Borough, and one case of puerpera; , sepsis was notified in the Stratford | County. 15<.tli cases were removed to Hospital and the respective premises ; wore disinfected.
