Captain Denniston, who is on furlough, arrived in Stratford by the mail train last evening and is 'spending a few days with his sister, Mrs H. Abraham.

Private James Loraine Rogers, mentioned in the latest casualty list as having been wounded in the left thigh and left shoulder, is a son of Mr L. Rogers, Warwick Road, Stratford.

In the beginning of last month, while on leave from Exance, Captain Eric Mackenzie, R.R.M.0., son of Dr. Wallace Mackenzie, of Wellington, was decorated by the King at Buckingham Palace.

Mr R. Hirter, of Ross, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday, was presented with an address by the Ross Borough Council, of which he was a member for a number of years. Mr Hirter has also filled the office of Mayor.

A Melbourne cablegram states that the officers lost on board the warship Defence include two Australians, suoLieutenants Patterson and Mack, who entered the British navy to train for subsequent service in the Australian navy. Among the men who returned to Wellington by the Athenic on Tuesday were: J. G. Sturmey (N.-Z.F.A.), Eltbam; J. L. Peffers (N.Z.F.E.), Waverley; Claude R. Hill (Auckland Battalion), Whennakura; and John Petrie (Wellington Battalion), Stratford.

j Private J. Petrie, son of Mr J. Pej trie, jeweller, of Stratford, who returned from London by the Athenic, arrived in Stratford by the mail train last evening. Private Petrie met with a hearty reception at the station, and the Mayor (Mr J. W. Boon) welcomed him hack to Stratford.

Lance-Corporal H. D. Skinner (Otlfgo Battalion), son of Mr W. H. Skinner, Commissioner of Crown Lands, Canterbury, was decorated with the D.C.M. by General Bird wood on Anzac Day at Hornchurch, England. Lance-Corporal Skinner won the medal for gallant work at Gallipoli on August 9 last.
