The Stratford Eve ning Post WITH WHICH IS INCORPORATED THE EGMONT SETTLER TUESDAY, JUNE 6, 1916. TARANAKI’S WINTER SHOW.

The big Winter Show at New Plymouth, an annual lixture which each year grows in popularity and usefulness; will be opened to-morrow by the Hon. W. D. McDonald. Unlike some rival institutions which give signs of drifting into the limbo of forgotten things, the Taranaki Winter Show is not hiding its light under, a bushel, and in consequence can this year claim to have received a record number of entries. The demand for space has exceeded any previous year, and as a consequence, many applicants remain unsatisfied. The Committee is faced with the position that far more space is required and will have to be provided before the next Show. It is anticipated that, with the greatly increased membership and the convenience of the tram service, the attendance this week will far exceed that of previous years; and it is to be hoped the enterprising management are right in their con jectures. It will be specially interesting to dairy farmers to know that, in connection with the Show, a conference to which they are invited, will be held to-morrow morning for the purpose of discussing the question ol turnip feeding to dairy cows. Ibis is a much-vexed question, and such a gathering ought to be helplul to our great industry. Several special efforts are being made this year by the Show Committee, including, amongst others, a demonstration of fruit-tree pruning by a Government expert. If the weather Holds fine, as it now gives promise of doing, there will be many visitors to New Plymouth from Stratford and dis trier, this week.
