The Auckland Racing Club's winter meeting commenced to-day in fine weather. The course is in fair older. Results ; Maiden Steeplechase—Waimai 1, New York 2, Idealism 3. Scratched: Ihirakia, Bonnie Jean, Stockade, and Kiieaway. Won by half a length. Time, 5.12. Jervois Handicap.—Pendoon 1, Bowler 2, Brown Loch 3. Scratched: 'Salvia, Coral King, Heat Wave, and I Some Star. Won by a length. Time, 1.81 2-5.

Maiden Hurdles.—Marconi 1, Glenda lough 2. Lady Sabaretache 3. Scr. ; Broqkfield, Laverna, and Genevieve. Won by six lengths. Time, 3.25. Great Northern Hurdles—El (.alio 1, To Onga 2, Tararu Jack 3. The Otaki Maori Racing Club commenced it winter meeting to-day in (glorious weather. The tracks were somewhat holding, but the racing was good. j Haukawa Cup.—George 1, Lady I Louisa 2, Bradamante 3. Also ran: Rewi Roto, Kooya, Taringamutu, Square Deal, Orleans, Cold Soult, Mastor Moutoa, Want, Merry Gain, Sicily, Roumania. George led all the way and won comfortably by two lengths from Lady Louisa and Bradamante. Kooya finished almost in line. Time, 2.13 3-5.
