ADVANCING ON BAGDAD. RUSSIAN ADVANCE ON NINEVEH. United Association. Petrograd, May 31. A considerable force of Turks, on a ten mile front, attacked a Russian column that was advancing to Nineveh. The attackers were routed with heavy loss. The Turks were apparently troops that had been released by the Kut capitulation. Bagdad lias been placed in a strong state of defence by the best German methods, but probably the fate of the '.own will be decided by that of Nineveh, the loss of which means the isolation of Bagdad.

The task of General Lake’s force now is to immobilise as many of the enemy as possible, in order to assist the Russians, and probably his purpose is to bring the Cossacks to British headquarters to arrange for a point of operation.
