I (Received 1.25 p.m.) Lieutenant Shaokleton is safe at tlw Falkland Islands, and the Endurance and crew at Elephant Island. * ’ - 1 The Falkland Islands are British possessions in the South Atlantic, about 300 miles east of the Strait of i Magellan. The total ares is 6,500 square miles. East Falkland and "West Falkland having an area of 3000 and 2000 square miles respectively. The population is under 3000. The Endurance, which has been missing for some time, was sent on a search expedition to the Macqcarries in tho South Pacific.
