AMUSEMENTS.

HIS MAJESTY’S THEATRE.

“THE PRISONER OF ZENDA.” The lavishly mounted adaptation of Anthony Hope’s exquisite romance “The Prisoner of Zenda” was screened for the first time at His Majesty’s Theatre last evening. The photo-play is produced by the London Film Company, and is an achievement in mo-tion-picture not previously eclipsed by anything seen locally. “The Prisoner of Zenda” has been presented by other film makers, but previous efforts cannot compare with the London Film Company’s production. The

mountings, scenic effects, court assemblages, and coronation ceremony are deserving of the highest eulogium. The acting is artistic and convincing, and the general atmosphere of the phrv is that conceived in Hope’s masterpiece. The story is an intensely interesting one, in which daring romance, adventure, sword play, love and sacrifice are seen in ever-shift-ing rapidity, and holds the onlooker enthralled to the very end. The supporting films are good, and the music of His Majesty’s orchestra adds siderably to the evening’s entertainment. The programme will be shown to-night for the last time. To-morrow and Saturday night Mary Pickford will appear in her powerful screen play “Rags.”
