The death of the Rev. Charles Stead, ex-president of the Methodist Conference, is reported from Sydney.
Mr A. E. McGregor, chief clerk at the Nelson Post Office, has been promoted to be chief postmaster at Hokitika .
A Napier message reports the death of Captain Richard Todd, superintendent of the Commonwealth and Dominion Line, aged 71 years.
A Sydney cablegram reports the death of D. F. G. Watton, a Crimean veteran, who also served throughout the New Zealand war.
51 r James Angus, a former wellknown New Zealand contractor, left an estate valued at £173,000, states a Sydney cablegram.
Foreman E. A. Drake, who has left Stratford to reside in Eltham, was. prior to his departure, presented with a silver egg cruet by Captain T. G. Grubb on behalf of the members of the Volunteer Fire Brigade. In making the presentation. Captain Grubb referred to Foreman Drake’s many good qualities, and wished him every success in his new sphere. Foreman Drake briefly responded.
