The , armament and munition masters at Shef- ' field, are unfavorable,. they say, to penalise good workers while the bad ones take a holiday anyway. Many of the V.icker.s T Maxim staff have,wor.ked eighty-three hours weekly since 'tile war began, and it is necessary to clean the flues,; furnaces, and forges, and repair the machinery. Birmingham, Leeds, and Glasgow masters area similarly,doubtful, though willing to forego, if urgent, the temporary need; Others have I suggested that instead of a general holiday the workers be allowed a few days' rotation, like the soldiers at the front. Mr Samuel, in the House of Commons, said that since'" the beginning of the war there had been three naval attacks on Britain, the killed numbering 141 and the injured 611; as well as forty-four air raids, the killed numbering 409 and the injured 1005.
