Weather Forecast.—The indications are for easterly strong winds to gale and veering by east to south. Heavy rain is to be expected with rivers flood"ed Barometer falling, but rising after about 2-1 hours.—Bates, Wellington. ' The Senior Cadets of the district,: to celebrate the end of the military yeai\ when the cadets merge into the Territorials and new units join thenranks, intend holding a social evening in the Medina tea-rooms on Friday evening next, at 8 o'clock. A Press Association telegram from Auckland states that Judge Chapman made a vigorous protest in the Supreme Court to-day, against men being allowed to enter the dock wearing a military uniform. He said it was aj most objectionable practice, carrying certain consequences about wliich he did not. care to speak just now. Counsel for accused urged that the prisoner did not appear in military uniform as a theatrical display, but because it was a military offence for a \ man to appear except in uniform. His Honor said he did not believe for a- moment the military authorities, if 'such were the regulations, would in-' sist on its enforcement. At .this stage the case was interrupted by a young woman witness fainting. His Honor adjourned the case, and fdirected accused to appear' on Monday ■ w paring " civilians''dress, and remarked that if any action was taken bv the military authorities he, His Honor, would be responsible.
