WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. At the last mooting of the Whang*momona County Council, there wore present: Crs tf. A. McCutchan, M. Gcevcr, N. R. Clehuid, I!. MeLeod, T. 11. Mounsey, A. Coyne, unci J. McCluggago. in the absence of the chairman (Cr Meredith), Cr McCutchan was \oted to the chair. Cr McOutch'an reported tliat an agreement in writing had been obtained from all of the Putikhuna road loan ratepayers, arriving at a
decision regarding the order of expenditure of loan moneys. The Council expressed its satisfaction that an agreement had been arrived at by the ratepayers. On the motion of Cr McClnggage, seconded by Cr Cieever, Mrs Beatrice Pope was appointed poundkeoper of jtlie Kolmratahi pound. I It was decided that a new pound board bo procured and written for the Kolmratahi pound, and the clerk to advei'tise when the pound would be re-opened. The Engineer's report was read and adopted. It was decided that the services of A. Scott lie dispensed with forthwith, and the Engineer be authorised to fill the vacancy as soon as possible. A deputation, consisting of Messrs Bradley and Sharp, waited on the Council and asked for permission to use the Council's room'Tor meetings of the Patriotic Committee, free of charge.—The request was granted. The Engineer was empowered to supply three lamps for use in the streets of the township. On Cr McCutchan's motion, seconded by Cr McClnggage, it was decided to advise the Loan and Mercantile Company that bullock traffic on roads during the winter was prohibited by the Council's Traffic By-laws.
Cr McCutchan moved, and Cr Coyne seconded: That application bo made for subsidies on Ohuru Road Bridge near the factory, on Vera Road Bridge, and on tlic second bridge, and for throe bridges at the end of the Whanga. road. The Council wont into committee to consider applications for the position of County Overseer. On resuming, reported, recommending that Mr J. Campbell be appointed, subject to him producing satisfactory references, or failing him,' Mr It. Browne; and that Crs McCutchan, MeLeod, -Clcland and Gecyer had boon appointed to (leal with a permanent appointment upon the above lines.
The Engineer was instructed to prepare plans and specifications for the construction of Mounsey's bridge. On the motion of Cr Coyne, seconded by Cr McCluggage, it was resolved that rents for all Council leases and reserves be payable in advance on December 31 in each year. A letter was received from the Croup Area'Officer, Hawcra, re recruiting.—lt was decided to advise the Area, Officer''that the Council had done nothing in the matter. The County Clerk wrote re the "road accounts" system.—The Clerk was authorised to alter tlie system of keeping accounts to conform with the amendment to' the Counties Act, 1911, and the Treasury regulations. [ A. W. locking, Te Wera, wrote re position as surfaceman. —Referred to the Engineer. McCluggage Bros, wrote asking for permission to construct a tramway on a County road.—The Council's permission was granted on the usual terms and conditions. Mrs A. Dean wrote asking for the use of the reserve lately occupied by W. Pope.—The reserve was granted at a. rental of 5s per annum. The dog'taX collector (Mr Roberts) was authorised to shoot all unregistered dogs in accordance with Section 16 of ''The Dogs' Registration Act, 1908." Accounts amounting to £1025 15s, were passed for payment.
