EMPIRE DAY.
FROM THE ARMY TO THE KING. United Pbehs Association . London, May 25. Uenoral Sir Douglas Haig telegraphed the King an Empire Bay message 'of loyal devotion from tlie troops of all the Dominions. I The King replied: "Tell the soldiicis of Lite Empire of the pride and [interest wherewith I am following [their fortunes, trusting that success will crown their efforts. May their 'comradeship on the battlefield unite 'still more closely the people of the I Dominions with the Mother Country in the age of peace which, please God, will be the fruit of this long and ardu* OU-s war." The Council of the British Empire League, the Duke of Devonshire presiding, resolved that the best nay of [finding out whether Imperial union was possible and what line to follow (was desirable, would be to hold an elective convention of the type which was successful in all other constitutions of the Empire. It was desirable that the Government should take steps to hold a convention early after the i war.
MESSAGE FROM FRANCE. Paris, May 26. ! President Poincaire forwarded an Empire Day message to King George, conveying the good wishes of the peoples of the kingdom of the Dominions and India, whose soils had come to fight side by side with the soldiers of France. ; His Majesty the King, in his reply, proclaimed the, Empire's solidarity with the noble French nation.
