TARANAKI EDUCATION BOARD.
Tlie ordinary meeting of the Taranaki Education Board was held at Now Plymouth yesterday, when there were present: Messrs 11. Trimble (chairman), A. Morton, E. Mark'll, A. H. Hitlcombe, F. Maekay, J. Young, R. .Masters, G. A. Adlam, and the Rev A. B. Chappell. CHAIRMAN’S REPORT. The chairman reported that during the interim ho had made the following temporary appointments; Upper Mangorci, Mr A. H. Amooro ; Hnrimoana, Mr Jones; West End, Miss’ Grace Mouat; Te Kiri, Miss Xorah .Moore.; ' /Frankley Miss Graham; Pohokura, Miss Norah Moore. The chairman’s report Was' adopted. AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION. Mr Gray (Technical director), submitted Mr H. G. Sergei’s report as follows:—“Since my last report 1 have lectured at Lepperton, Kahouri Bridge Oakura, Okato, Waroa, Kent Road, Boaconsfiekl Road (Midhirst), Bell Block, Pembroke Road, and Ngaere. In view of club-root .in turnips having increased this year, 1 desire to appeal through this report io some farmers whose swede turnips have suffered badly from this disease, to sot aside a half acre in,order that; various, preventative imekskiresi m;iy; boi tried. OVERSEER’S REPORT. The overseer (Mr C. H. Moore), reported that the Hnrimoana School was completed and opened for pupils early in this month. Painting and sundry repairs were completed at Marco, Pohokura, Huiakama, schools. It was resolved to draw the Department’s attention to the application lor grants for a silo at Stratford for a high school, for a now school at Radnor and at Vogcltown, and for. the enlargement of the New Plymouth Technical College and the West End school. GENERAL. The Okau School Comnwttce were granted permission to close their ji school a week earlier than usual. The Ngaere school was allowed to bp G closed for two weeks for the winterG
hojidays, in lieu of a week in mid-1 winter and a week in spring. | The following teachers were granted ■] leave of absence:—Mrs Calvert (sole teacher), Pohokura; Miss M. Bullard (assistant), West End; Miss K. Eustace (assistant), Tariki; Miss M. K.-i Hare (assistant), Frankley; Miss B. Simpson (assistant), Norfolk; Miss M. Bollinger (pupil teacher), ..Bell Block. The Board resolved to grant subsidies to Awatnna and Huiakawu schools for libraries as provided in the Education Act. The Whangampmona School Committee was granted an extra subsidy of t-fimfor improving tbo school ground.
