The Irrigation Commission has earmarked five-hundred blocks of an area from ten to thirty acres for returned soldiers, and will utilise the services of many returned soldiers in preparing the land. Other blocks will be made available as required. “ANZAC” AS TRADEMARK PROHIBITED. (Received 9.55 a.m.) Melbourne, May 25. A proclamation prohibits tno use of the word “Anzac” as a trademark. The Government refuses to recognise the rights of any person to monopolise a word which is dear to all Australians. CONSCRIPTION OF WEALTH DENOUNCED. (Received 9.55 a.m.) Melbourne, May 23. In the Senate, Mr Pearce (Minister of Defence), vigorously denounced the proposal for the conscription of wealth. Those advocating it had not suggested to conscript wealth, but to commit robbery. The Government proposed that wealth be dealt with first on an honest basis. IMMEDIATE CONSCRIPTION DESIRED. (Received 9.55 a.m.) Perth, May 25. The Chamber of Commerce passed a motion urging the immediate introduction of Conscription.
