A communique .states : A German gas cloud between the Souain-St. Suppled Road was turned back on their trenches Jby a sudden gust of wind. Infantry action on the lelt bank of the Meuse continued all night, and out grenade-throwers occupied several blockhouses evacuated by the enemy a t Avocourt Wortd. Particularly tierce fighting occurred westward of Moiy Horahie, curtain and machine gun fire breaking the enemy’s several attempts to extend progress. We captured. after a vigorous attack, a portion of tlie ground lost on Saturday night. The Germans repeatedly coun-ter-attacked our positions at Haudromont quarries, but were repulsed with heavy losses. We captured a trench on the outskirts of Vaux. Three enemy aeroplanes were brought down in me J.es Esparges and Soissons districts.
