Yauenbruck, Huge, and Felix, three German professors of Zurich University, are carrying on remarkable experiments at the military hospitals to train the muscles of amputated stumps to control the motion of artificial hands, so that they are' able to open and shut the fingers, fill a glass, and do other actions of the muscles. The stump is connected by means of cat gut, with the'artificial arm or hand. The professors have discovered what muscles are essential and therefore best worth preserving in amputation cases. They are also experimenting with the transplanting of muscles.
