FIREMEN IN pOUTIT. THE CASE OF "i.IE MAORI. Wellington, May 18. Mr Ricldell, Stipendiary Magistrate, gave his decision in the proceedings against a number of iiremen and trimmers from the steamer Maori, against whom an alleged breach of agreement on 17th March is made, when the majority of the stokehold crew left the vessel at Wellington alter giving 24 hours' notice at Lyttelton. The Magistrate said as the men had decided to leave the ship in a body prior to giving notice, their formally giving notice wax of no moment in determining whether their combined action constituted a strkc or hot. The men had acted in concert-for the purpose of compelling their employer to concede a demand which was clearly unreasonable. Judgment would be entered against defendants for £2 with costs.
