At tlio Fitzroy Fire Brigade social lost night, Foreman P. Jenkins was .presented with the United F ire Brigades Association’s five years service medal.
One of Waikato’s oldest and most respected residents died at Hamilton on Tuesday in the person of Mr William Australia Graham, at t'ue age of 74.
On Sunday morning, Mr John Turnhull, who was known as the “Father of Morrinsvillo,” passed peacefully away at his residence there at the age of 82. Deceased was horn in Scotland and came to New Zealand in the ship Gertrude in 1863.
The Hon. Sir James Carroll has telegraphed that he will be unable to visit Wellington before his departure for London as a member of the Parliamentary party. He will proceed from Gisborne to Auckland, and join the steamer there. Mr T. W. Fisher, Under-Secretary for Native Affairs, will retire on superannuation at the end of June. Mr Fisher has occupied his present pAition for several years, but previous to taking over that appointment did valuable service on behalf of the Public Trust Department in th'e administration of the West Coast Settlement Reserves. ■’ l 1 ; recy,-. i ; ,! n ■ . ;i - At the annual communications of' the Masonic Grand Lodge, held at Auckland this week, the following oflieers wore, elected for the Taranaki district: j Grand Steward, W. Sargent was appointed, Provincial Grand Master of Taranaki.
