ALLEGED SPIES.
SUSPICIOUS CHARACTERS ARRESTED AT LEVIN, .Per Press Association. Palmerston North Mav 10. Two foreigners, I. Shack and A. Komiashko, purporting to be Russian journalists travelling around the world on foot and who were recently in Palmerston North iwere arrested to-day at Levin, • under instructions Tom the military authorities. Both Military and police officials are extremely reticent regarding the matter, out startling developments are expected in a few days. It appears that the two men were travelling about the Country, ostensibly for th purpose of gaining material for future articles in the Russian press. Though they had, apparently, bona-fide passports, their actions aroused the suspicions of the military authorities, who kept watch on them, ft seems that the two men were seen near Rangiotn Camp, and spent ai night at a German’s plain near there. This confirmed the suspicions of the military authorities, with the result that the police communicated with Constable Wood, of Lfevin, who traced the men to Foxton, only to, find that .heyj had taken; road to Levin. ■ They were finally arrested at Levin, and the two men were brought to'the Palmerston police station and searchad. The search did not reveal much of apparently incriminating character, although a photoraph found on one of the men bore the name of a Hamburg photorapher. They will be locked up pending the pleasure of the military Authorities.
