(Received, 10.10 a.m.) Sydney, May 10. Lieut.-Commander Owen Hare has arrived, having been lent by the British Admiralty for three years. He has been appointed to the cruiser Brisbane. The. Lieut, -Commander participated in the landing at Suvla and in the evacuation at Anzae. SOLDIERS' POST-WAR INTENTIONS. (Received 10.10 a.m.) Melbourne, May 10. The State War Council has issued cards to the soldiers in training camps in order to ascertain their post-war intentions. Nine thousand cards were returned, of which 1.927 desired land settlement.
DEFENCE EXPENDITURE AND I PRIVATE WEALTH. (Received 10.10 a.m.) Melbourne, May 10. The defence expenditure is estimated at £'19,801,975. The Treasurer stated that in his opinion the time had arrived when Australia should at least pay her own share of the war expenditure; indeed, that she should lend money to the Imperial Goyernmenfc. AN ADEQUATE PENSION. (Received 10.20 a.m;. Sydney, Sfay 10. At the Labor Conference, Mr Holma'n stated that the Government felt that the Commonwealth pension of 20s per week to incapacitated soldiers was too small, and that the State was Supplementing it by a similar amount. Referring to the pension for the wounded who were unable to follow their pre-war avocation, with less earnings than previously, the State would supply the difference. The scheme probably would involve an annual expenditure of £750,000. !

(Received 10.25 a.m.) Melbourne, May 10. Tn the House of Representatives, the Treasurer stated that the naval and military estimates amounted to £41,562,039,. against £17,537,255 last year.
