SENSATION AT WAREA.
THREATENING TO SHOOT. <•. ,; /-j On Friday evening a young man named H, Briinsden was arrested at VVarea by Constable O'Neill, of Rahotu, ok of intent to do grievous oocfily harm to James Duggan, a weU-known Warea settler, by attempting to discharge a gun at him that morning. Accused was brought into New Plym-outli on Saturday and was charged before Mr A. Crooke, 3.M., with the offence. Sub-Inspec-tor Fouhy prosecuted, and accused was represented by Mr J. H. Qniliam. | The sub'-inspector, in outlining the case, said that Brunsden went to Dug_gab's "front gate with a gun rri'his hfirid, and meeting one of Duggan's children, told the child to tell his lather he was wanted. The boy told his father, and, it appears, also said that Briinsden had a gun with him. Duggan then came out and brought his gun. Brunsden was seen to place a cartridge in his gun, which he presented at Duggan and threatened to shont. Duggan said: "Don't shoot, because if you do I shall have to defend myself." Accused did not fire, and after presenting a revolver at Duggan he went away. The sub-in-spector, in asking, for a remand, pointed cut that accused had only oeen arrested the previous evenir.c. . Mr Quilliam asked for bail, but the sub-inspector considered that it was not a case for bail. A remand was granted until Wednesday morning, bail being allowed, accused in a surety of £SO and two other sureties of £25 each.
