THE COUNTRY’S DESTINES. TORPEDOING OF A STEAMER. URGENT INQUIRY PENDING. United Pairs? Association. Rio de Janeiro, May 5. It is officially confirmed that the steamer Rio Branco was torpedoed. The news has caused a sensation in Brazil, and the Government has notified the German Legation that they have ordered an urgent inquiry, in order to take action in defence of Brazil’s rights as a neutral. Newspapers say that. Germany regards herself as at war with the whole world. At the call of the President. Brazil will rise to the level of the country’s destinies.
