[United i’ntsa association.] Paris, May 4. An explosion that occurred iu the Government chemical works at La Koclicile fired five neighbouring factories. The explosion was heard thirty miles away. One hundred people were killed. It is believed that the explosion was accidental. (Received 9.15 a.m.) Sydney, May 6. The Premier (Mr Holman), definitely stated that a referendum on the abolition of the Council would bo taken at the general election day towards the end of the year. A deputation of clergy and laity from the various States is requesting their Governments to establish a film censorship. The latest official estimate shows that the amount of wheat in New South Wales is at the lowest 67,323,390 bushels, being 29 million in excess of the previous highest. The Labour Conference passed a motion in favour of granting [women full citizen rights, and pasltM a further motion urging the Government 1 to legislate to enable - soldiers at the. front to record their votes.
