Merinos advanced live per cent, compared with the prices at the last sales, and greasy crossbreds half-penny to a penny, mostly on mediums. HIGH COMMISLjONER'S REPORT. . Wellington, May 1. T’he Department of Agriculture, Industries and Commerce, has received tlie following cablegram from the High I Commissioner for New Zealand, dated jLondon, April 29: j Mutter.-—. Market closed firmer, with more inquiry and prices linn. Danish quiet, 108 s to J7os per cwt; New Zea* land, in good demand, 163 sto 1645, l.'.ir to good quality, 160 s to 168 s, uu- ■ salted 162 s to 164 s ; Australian, 166 s U) 158 s. unsalted 168 s to 160 s; Argentine. firm, 160 s to 1625, unsalted 164 s to 1665; Siberian, good demand for all descriptions, 126 s to 1345. ! Cheese.—4 lie market is very firm. Canadian, 108 s, to J 10s. In the case e! New Zealand the market has advanced, and a further advance is prohable. Spot market is bare; Jo7s to 108 s. Cm"ted States, in good demand. 106 s to 107 s; English Cheddar, 116 s t o USs.
i NEWTON KING REPORT. I At my Hay market sale, on Saturday last pigs were penned in moderate numbers only. There was a fair attendance of buyers present, though the demand was chiefly for woaners, which class were in advance from 2s to 6s per head, while store pigs showed a drop from 4s (id to 18s (id. I quote: Slips and woaners 4s Gd to 18s (id, small stores £l. 2s to £1 9s, medium stores £1 16s to £2 4s, gigs from £6 to £2 3s, set of harness £4 16s. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.. Ltd. have received the following telegram from their London office; teenth April, merino about 5 per cent, crossbred 2) per cent., higher, market strong.”
